Brighton’s story discussed at Council
Just in time for the Democratic National Convention, a new brochure will trumpet the virtues of Brighton to national media. Susan Stanton, executive director of the Brighton Economic Development Corp., told the City Council on Tuesday that a 20-page book providing “anything anyone wants to know about Brighton” will go to press in two weeks and be sent to every media outlet in Colorado, its adjacent states and media in California, Florida, Texas and the Chicago metropolitan area. Stanton pointed out that when national media converge on Colorado for the convention, they already should have in hand the information about Brighton. Also at the meeting, four Youth in Government students – Dani Chaplin, Yesenia Gonzalez, Breann
Fuller and Hannah Vaughn – presented a report to the council based on questions, Do you see Brighton as a place to live and raise a family after college? and What changes would bring you back to Brighton? The students said Brighton’s first and foremost need is educational opportunities; second is affordable, decent housing for young families and singles; third is recreation and entertainment for young people; and fourth is more jobs. They counted as attributes the small-town atmosphere, great living conditions, schools that are modernizing, and they suggested that the city bring in a firm to help advertise Brighton around the nation to bring in more business benefits to keep residents in Brighton to conduct business and shop. They also listed Prairie Center as an asset, particularly with its new residential element.
