Officials to celebrate new store, new jobs in Brighton

Brighton, COLO. – Brighton City Officials, Representatives of King Soopers, along with the Brighton Economic Development Corporation will celebrate the official beginning of construction for the new 13-Acre Brighton Crossing Commercial Development with a groundbreaking event on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 10:30am.  For weeks, preparation work has been underway at the site located at the northeast corner of Bridge Street and 50th Avenue in Brighton, Colorado.

Officials will celebrate the official groundbreaking for the 125,000-square-foot King Soopers Marketplace in Brighton. The new store, opening in late summer 2014, will anchor the center with additional sites available for future retail amenities.

“Over the last 10 years, the growth in the northwest corridor has positioned Brighton well to attract businesses here with confidence,” said Mayor Dick McLean. “A grocery store in this growing area of Brighton has been a top priority for the city and today’s event addresses a need for our residents. It also will help foster a sense of community, a greater sense of place and much complementary development as well.”

This will be the 5th marketplace for King Soopers, and the first to expand product offerings to include apparel. The Marketplace offers a one-stop shopping location that meets the needs of today’s busy, health-conscious shopper. Traditional grocery offerings have been expanded to feature locally grown produce; chef-prepared meals; specialty food bars such as sushi, cheese, chicken wings and soup; and more than 5,000 natural and organic items. The MarketPlace will also sell quality general merchandise, including apparel, dinnerware, small appliances and more.

“Our partnership with the city was critical to our decision to locate here, as a Colorado company we are excited to continue to serve the residents of Brighton and the surrounding communities with a second location as a solution for much of what their family needs.” said Russ Dispense, President of King Soopers.

King Soopers estimates that at least 300 construction jobs will be created through Colorado contractor Mark Young Construction and their subcontractors. When the store opens next fall, 250 employees will serve residents throughout the city and region.

“This is a great project for our community,” said James Vigesaa, Chair of the Brighton Economic Development Corporation.  “These are the kinds of projects the EDC pursues – ones that bring jobs and capital investment to the City.”
