MEASURE WILL IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION FOR SCHOOL DISTRICT 27J
Brighton, Colorado – The Brighton Economic Development Corporation’s Board of Directors is endorsing the 27J MillLevy ballot measure, and encouraging the citizens and businesses of Brighton to support this important measure by voting YES on November 1.
In their quarterly board of director’s meeting September 27, the Brighton Economic Development Corporation recognized “the importance of high quality education to the overall stability, well-being and vitality of the Brighton community.” Currently, the District is made up of 22 schools – most of which are located in Brighton – and has comparatively low milllevy funding. District 27J is able to provide just $53 per student each year above state funding levels. Nearby districts invest hundreds of dollars per student each year, such as Adams 12, which gives $881 above state levels.
“It is important we come together as a community and address this important issue,” said James Vigesaa, Chairman of Brighton Economic Development Corporation.
The mill levy override of 6.3 mills is projected to raise an additional $4.8 million per year for the school district. The increase will be used to help the district recruit and retain highly qualified teachers and instructors, purchase and maintain instructional materials, reduce academic and transportation fees, and maintain a healthy and safe learning environment.
“High quality education is at the top of the list for new businesses looking to expand in the Brighton market,” said Raymond H. Gonzales, President & CEO of the Brighton Economic Development Corporation.
Strong support of the 27J mill levy increase is shared by the city councils of Brighton and Commerce City, District 27J’s board of education, Brighton Chamber of Commerce, Metro North Chamber of Commerce, Adams County Economic Development and teacher and parent groups.
