America's small businesses are the backbone of our economy, employing half of our country's private sector workforce and creating nearly two out of every three new jobs in our country. Representing the quintessential American ideals of hard work and ingenuity, small businesses -- from startups to mom-and-pop shops -- are crucial to our national and local prosperity and economic security.

There are over 560,000 small businesses in Colorado and half of our workforce is employed by small businesses. In Brighton there are 2,500 small businesses.

When citizens shop local the sales tax goes to support our local economy as well as the city services, parks, water and many other amenities citizens enjoy in our community. Shopping small and local not only helps our small businesses, it helps keep our community a place we can shop, live, learn and play.

The City of Brighton, Brighton Economic Development Corporation, North Metro Denver SBDC at Brighton, the Downtown Partnership and the Greater Brighton Chamber of Commerce encourage all to get out and shop small, shop local and Support Small Business Saturday, November 26th.

Remember our small businesses represent what is best about our community -- the idea that with determination and responsibility, anyone can build a better life for themselves and their loved ones; and create economic vitality in our local community.
